CONCORD, N.C. — Monty Bertschy led the UTSA men's cross country team for the third consecutive outing at Saturday's Conference USA Championships.
Bertschy circled the 8,000-meter Frank Liske Park loop in 25:49.2 en route to placing 27th in the field of 76 runners and the junior from Boerne now has paced the Roadrunners in all four meets he has participated in this fall.
"We ran the best we could on this particular day," Bertschy said. "I'm looking forward to seeing how we do at regionals in a couple of weeks."
UTSA's other scorers at its first postseason meet of the campaign included Saul Vasquez (43rd/26:39.5), John von Dohlen (46th/26:46.0), Alex Cruz (48th/26:58.6) and Peter Sepulveda (50th/27:01.1).
Middle Tennessee's Jacob Choge won the individual title in 23:54.2.
Meanwhile, UTEP successfully defended its team crown with 24 points, while Middle Tennessee (36) and Charlotte (92) rounded out the top three. The Roadrunners placed eighth with their 210 points.
UTSA will continue postseason competition in two weeks at the NCAA South Central Regional. The meet is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11, in Fayetteville, Ark.
