UTSA to begin postseason competition at Saturday's Conference USA Championships

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's cross country team will begin postseason competition on Saturday morning at the Conference USA Championships. The 8,000-meter race is scheduled for a 10 a.m. (CT) start at Frank Liske Park in Concord, N.C.

Monty Bertschy, Luca Chatham, Alex Cruz, Martin Luevano, Peter Sepulveda, Saul Vasquez and John von Dohlen are scheduled to compete for the Roadrunners, who will be making their fourth appearance as a member of the league.

UTSA was picked to finish sixth in the preseason C-USA poll that was announced by the league office back in August.

Bertschy has paced the Roadrunners at all three meets he has participated in this season. The junior from Boerne owns a top finish of 11th at the season-opening Aggie Opener  (Sept. 2) and he also placed 40th at the Texas A&M Invitational (Sept. 24) and 58th at the Bronco Invitational (Oct. 15).

UTSA has won eight league crowns in program history. The Roadrunners captured five consecutive Trans America Athletic Conference Championships from 1986-90 and later won three straight Southland Conference titles from 1995-97. UTSA finished sixth at last year's league meet at Bowling Green, Ky.
