SAN ANTONIO — Aimee Ponte tied for 10th place to lead the UTSA women's golf team to a tie for seventh at the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday at Briggs Ranch Golf Club (par 72/6,450 yards).
Ponte carded a 2-under-par 214 to register her fourth career top 10 and lead the Roadrunners to their second straight and seventh overall top-10 showing at their annual home tournament. The senior from St. Sampson's, Guernsey, turned in a 2-under 70 in the final round on the strength of five of her team-high 13 birdies. She opened with a 75-69—144 en route to matching her career-best 54-hole scorecard.
Julie Houston was three shots back with a 1-over 217 to finish in a tie for 16th, her second straight top-20 effort. The sophomore from Allen carded a 75 on Tuesday after posting a 70-72—142 on Sunday-Monday.
Nikki Long tied for 34th with a 71-77-73—221, while Becky McGeehan and Madison Kidd, who led the field with 42 pars, rounded out the UTSA lineup in 37th (75-73-74—222) and 52nd (75-77-74—226), respectively. Lara Weinstein was 74th (84-82-79—245) competing as an individual.
The Roadrunners tied with No. 32 Auburn for seventh place at 9-over 873 in the 14-team field. UTSA carded three straight 3-over 291s, their best rounds of the season.
No. 9 Arkansas captured the team title with a 16-under 848, the third-best 54-hole total in tournament history. No. 39 Texas A&M was second (853), followed by 23rd-ranked Tennessee (861), Mississippi State (863), No. 35 TCU (864) and No. 21 SMU (872).
No. 41 Kansas State was ninth (874) behind Auburn and UTSA, while Tulane (889) closed out the top 10.
Alana Uriell of Arkansas fired a 12-under 204 (65-68-71) to tie the tournament record first set by Sophia Schubert of Auburn in 2014.
The Roadrunners will return to action from Nov. 7-8 when they travel to Dallas for the Trinity Forest Invitational.
