WKU downs Roadrunners in four sets on Sunday afternoon

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA suffered a 3-1 (30-28, 18-25, 18-25, 18-25) loss to Conference USA-leading WKU on Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center in front of the program's sixth largest crowd of 1,098.

Dajana Boskovic led all scorers with 19 kills and added 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. Amanda Gonzales also notched a double-double for the Roadrunners with 32 assists and 12 digs.

UTSA (15-5, 6-2 C-USA) was held to its lowest hitting percentage of the season with a .077 clip, while WKU went on to hit .185. Rachel Anderson led the Hilltoppers with 20 kills and .633 attack percentage.

It took an extra effort by both teams to conclude the opening stanza but the Roadrunners outlasted the Lady Hilltopers 30-28. Fourteen ties and eight lead changes resulted in extras, as it was just the fifth time WKU lost the first set.

UTSA led through much of the set until WKU evened the score at 15-all. At the final tie at 28, a hitting error by Hilltoppers gave UTSA the edge and was followed by a kill from Marijeta Runjic that secured the win.

The Hilltoppers (22-2, 9-0 C-USA) came back in the second set and held the Roadrunners to a .000 hitting percentage to even the match with a 25-18 win. UTSA led until the final tie of the frame at 14-all after WKU gained control on back-to-back points that would hold the rest of the way.

The final two sets of the match played out in similar fashion as WKU notched identical scores of 25-18.

UTSA will now hit the road for a pair of matches next week at UAB on Oct. 28 and Louisiana Tech on Oct. 30.
