Four Roadrunners to compete at this weekend's ITA Texas Regional

SAN ANTONIO — Four Roadrunners will represent the UTSA women's tennis program at this weekend's ITA Texas Regional. The five-day event is scheduled to get underway on Thursday morning at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco.

Tournament host Baylor will welcome players from 16 other programs across The Lone Star State, including Abilene Christian, Incarnate Word, Lamar, North Texas, Rice, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, SMU, TCU, Texas, Texas State, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, UT Arlington and UTSA.

A total of 114 singles and 52 doubles entries will battle for qualification rights to the upcoming ITA National Intercollegiate Championship, which is scheduled from Nov. 3-6 in New York City.

Laura Cabrera, Miriam Rosell Canudas, Denisa Ibrahimovic and Kylee Kato will compete for the Roadrunners.

Rosell Canudas posted her second third-place finish in as many weeks to lead UTSA at the team's last outing two weeks ago at the SMU Invitational.

The senior from Torello, Spain, who won two of her three matches in the No. 1 Singles Draw, opened play with a 7-6, 6-1 victory against SMU's Ana Perez. She then fell in two sets the next day against Gonzaga's Sophie Whittle (7-5, 7-5) but rebounded with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 triumph against SMU's Sarai Monarrez en route to placing third.
