UTSA downs Middle Tennessee 3-1 Friday night

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — An entire team effort was utilized at Middle Tennessee on Friday night and UTSA captured a 25-20, 19-25, 25-13, 25-11 victory at Alumni Memorial Gym.

Fourteen players saw action in the road contest, as Dajana Boskovic paced the pack with 11 kills and a season-best seven blocks. Freshman Kara Teal matched the season in blocks with seven and hit a season-high .778 on seven kills and nine swings. Meanwhile, Amanda Gonzales recorded just over half the team's assists with 24 and notched her first double-double of the season with 10 digs.

UTSA (13-4, 4 -1 C-USA) held its opponent to a .024 hitting percentage and is the second lowest this season. Middle Tennessee (4-17, 1-6 C-USA) continues its losing skid with its seventh consecutive loss of the season.

Regan Coughlin led the Blue Raiders with 10 kills, eight digs and five blocks.

It was a battle to the finish in the opening stanza as UTSA slipped past the home team with a 25-20 win. The Roadrunners held the Blue Raiders to a -.062 hitting percentage as the first set featured 11 ties and seven lead changes.

The Roadrunners finally pulled away after the score was even at 14 on back-to-back points on an ace and hitting error by MT. UTSA scored six of the last eight points for the win.

Middle Tennessee came back in the second set and notched dominant 25-19 victory. The Blue Raiders led by as many as 10 at the 21-11 mark but were caught off guard when the Roadrunners rattled off four straight points after earning set point. The Blue Raiders called for timeout but quickly brought the frame to a close with a kill by Bailey Madison.

UTSA turned things around out of the intermission as they used an 11-2 run to start of the third set. The Roadrunners went on to win 25-13 and held the Blue Raiders to a -.065 hitting percentage, the second time of the match.

The Roadrunners were dominant once again in the fourth set as they captured a 25-11 win. UTSA held Middle Tennessee to its third negative hitting percentage (-.042) of the match as the Roadrunners hit .310.

UTSA will return to the Alamo City on Sunday, Oct. 16, when the Roadrunners host UTEP at 1 p.m.
