THE WOODLANDS — Julie Houston tied for 20th place to help lead the UTSA women's golf team to 12th at the Jim West Challenge, which wrapped up on Monday at Carlton Woods Creekside Golf Course (par 72/6,137 yards).
Houston carded a 1-under-par 215 en route to her seventh career top-20 finish. The sophomore opened the event with a 74-69—143 on Sunday and followed with an even-par 72 today that featured four of her nine birdies for the event.
Nikki Long was the second-highest Roadrunners, finishing in a tie for 55th with a 72-81-73—226.
Becky McGeehan (78-76-74—228) and Aimee Ponte (81-71-76—228) each ended up in a tie for 61st, while Madison Kidd was 69th (77-76-80—233).
UTSA posted an 888 (301-292-295) to take 12th, two shots ahead of Jacksonville (890) and comfortably in front of Texas State (902) and North Texas (910).
Florida State captured the team title with a 24-under 840 on the strength of individual medalist Matilda Castren's 13-under 203 (69-65-69). Kent State (847), Miami (290-292-271—853), Texas (857) and Texas A&M (859) rounded out the top five.
The Roadrunners will return home to host the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational on Oct. 23-25 at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
