NACOGDOCHES — Stephen F. Austin jumped out to a 3-0 lead and then held off a second-half charge by visiting UTSA to score a 3-2 victory on Sunday night at SFA Field.
Sophomore Rebekah Kensing picked up her first goal and assist of the season to aid the comeback for the Roadrunners, who fell to 3-2. Freshman Camrynne Hoover also netted her first goal of the campaign, as UTSA outshot the Ladyjacks (1-2), 17-14.
Stephen F. Austin scored in the first and final minute of the opening half to take a 2-0 lead into intermission.
Just 42 seconds into the match, Hanna Barker found Hailey Hunt for a goal and a quick advantage for the home squad. The score doubled in the final minute of the period, when Crystal Calvit slipped one past the goal line nine seconds before halftime.
The Ladyjacks extended the advantage to 3-0 with Madison Hall's goal in the 47th minute before the UTSA offense turned up the pressure.
In the 58th minute, Kensing found Hoover for a strike that trimmed the deficit to 3-1 and just seven minutes later, Kensing beat the Ladyjacks keeper to pull the Roadrunners to within 3-2.
UTSA put up 10 shots in the final 24 minutes but was unable to come up with the equalizer.
The Roadrunners will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, when they host Northwestern State (3-2) at Park West Athletics Complex.
