Gilbert helps lead UTSA to third place at Friday's Texas Invitational

AUSTIN — Colleen Gilbert helped lead UTSA to a third-place finish at Friday's Texas Invitational.

Running in her hometown and for the first time as a Roadrunner, Gilbert covered the Hancock Golf Course 3,000-meter trail in 11:43.27 en route to 21st place.

"I am so proud of what we accomplished today," Gilbert said. "We came out here determined to do the best that we could after a few weeks of hard training and it went better than I expected. I know we will be even better as the season progresses and things are looking very bright for us."

Lynette Amaram (23rd/12:11.00), Sarah Estrada (25th/12:22.55), Anika Alfaro (28th/12:28.99) and Olivia Flores (29th/12:34.65) rounded out the Roadrunners' scoring contigent.

Meet host Texas won the team title with a perfect score of 15 points on the strength of Sandie Raines' individual championship in 10:25.11. Texas-Rio Grande Valley was second with 49 points, while UTSA rounded out the top three with its 91 points.

The Roadrunners will return to action next Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Texas A&M Invitational in College Station.
