SAN ANTONIO — UTSA nearly missed the .400 mark with a team hitting percentage of .398 in a sweep of Texas Tech Friday afternoon to make it five straight wins for the Roadrunners. UTSA won by scores of 25-12, 25-22 and 25-12.
The sweep over Texas Tech is the first win over the Red Raiders in school history and is the second Big 12 victory this season for the Roadrunners.
The Roadrunners held Texas Tech to a .036 hitting percentage, including a -.034 in the third set.
UTSA (8-3) finished with four players with hitting percentages of .400 or better and were led by senior Dajana Boskovic as she registered 17 kills with five digs and four blocks.
Tessa Dahnert led the Roadrunners at the net with a season-best seven blocks and added a pair of kills for 5.5 points.
No Red Raiders (10-5) player reached double figures but Lauren Douglass and Chandler Atwood's five winners paced Texas Tech.
UTSA made quick work of the Red Raiders in the first set with a 25-12 win. The roadrunners opened on a 6-1 and forced Texas Tech to take a timeout at the 12-6 mark. Antonela Jularic secured the win for UTSA with back-to-back kills and finished the day with eight total.
The Red Raiders stepped it up in the second set as the frame saw nine ties and a pair of lead changes. UTSA played from behind and saw themselves down 18-15 but rolled out with three straight points to tie the set at 18. The score bounced back and forth before UTSA controlled the match scoring the last four points of the set for the win.
The Roadrunners cruised to the sweep in the third set as they defeated the Red Raiders 25-12. UTSA had another strong start as they went 6-1 to start the stanza and held off Texas Tech the rest of the way.
UTSA will return for the final day of the Roadrunners Roundup with a matinee match-up against Wichita State at noon.
