SAN ANTONIO — After taking last weekend off, UTSA's men's cross country team will return to the course on Friday evening at the Texas Invitational. The 5,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Hancock Golf Course in Austin.
Three other schools will join the Roadrunners and host Longhorns, as Prairie View A&M, Texas-Rio Grande Valley and Texas Southern also will take part in the meet. Riley Burnside, Thor Crux, Caleb Devereaux, Marcus Guajardo, Dario Johnson, Skye Knight and Mason Riley are scheduled to compete for UTSA.
Monty Bertschy just missed a top-10 finish to highlight the squad's action at the season-opening Aggie Opener two weeks ago in College Station. Bertschy, a junior from Boerne, covered the 6,000-meter Dale Watts Cross Country Course in 19:02.5 en route to 11th place in the field of 37 runners.
Meet host Texas A&M captured the team title with a perfect score of 15 points on the strength of Cameron Villarreal's individual victory (18:18.1) and four other runners in the top five. Lamar placed second with 55 points, UTSA was third with 72 and Texas Southern rounded out the team standings with its 120 points.
