UTSA women to kick off campaign at Friday's Aggie Opener

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will open its 2016 campaign on Friday evening at the Aggie Opener, which will be hosted by Texas A&M at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course in College Station.

The women's 4,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. and the Roadrunners will be joined by runners from Lamar and meet host Texas A&M. Yulisa Abundis, Sarah Estrada, Gabriela Gonzales, Grace Kohler, Vanessa Lerma, Rian Rodriguez, Stephanie Sauceda, Marlett Trevino and Emily Voss are scheduled to compete for UTSA.

The Roadrunners, who return six letterwinners from a year ago, were selected eighth in the preseason Conference USA poll that was released a week ago. Cross country coach David Hartman also welcomes 11 newcomers to his 17-women squad this fall.

UTSA is coming off last year's eighth-place finish at the league meet. Abundis paced the team at its two postseason meets, as she placed 26th at the C-USA Championships and 34th a week later at the NCAA South Central Regional.
