Roadrunners officially report for fall camp on Thursday morning

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA officially reported for its sixth fall camp in program history, its fourth as a member of Conference USA and first under new head coach Frank Wilson on Thursday morning at University Oaks on the Main Campus.

The Roadrunners will go through a total of 23 days of practice in preparation for their 2016 season opener against Alabama State, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Alamodome. It will be the Roadrunners' first season lid-lifter at home since their inaugural 2011 campaign.

"I can't tell you how excited I was to see all the guys back today and ready to go for fall camp," Wilson said. "They've really only been gone for a week and five days since they're here all summer, but we missed them. It's like your family. When your kids go away, after a while you want them back because you miss them. This is an important time of the year for us. They're in great shape and their spirits are really high. We're ready to get out on the field tomorrow for our first practice."

UTSA returns 41 letterwinners and a total of 14 starters (7 defense/5 offense/2 kickers) from last year's squad that posted a 3-9 overall record and 3-5 mark in C-USA play. Included in that group are preseason all-conference honorees Marcus Davenport (junior defensive end), Michael Egwuagu (senior safety) and Jarveon Williams (senior running back). Also back is 2015 honorable mention all-league performer Kerry Thomas Jr. (junior wide receiver).

Both season and single-game (home and away) tickets currently are on sale for the upcoming season. Fans can click here or call (210) 458-UTSA (8872) for more information on purchasing tickets.
