SAN ANTONIO — The Shandong (China) Junior Women's National Team was strong from start to finish as they defeated the UTSA volleyball team in straight sets (25-14, 25-20, 25-16) Tuesday night at the Convocation Center.
Eleven Roadrunners saw action Tuesday as Dajana Boskovic led the squad with eight kills and added six digs. Marijeta Runjic added seven kills with three blocks while Amanda Gonzales registered 24 assists.
Shandong had two players in double figures as Du Quingqing led with 13 kills and Zhang Qian 10.
The visiting Shandong team was dominant in the first set as they took the opening frame by a 25-14 score.
UTSA played a close game in the second set as they tied the score five times and managed to lead once at the 14-13 on a block by Megan Slan and Amanda Gonzales.
In the third set, UTSA battled as the score tied on 10 occasions but after the 12-all tie, Shandong went on a 6-0 run to lead 18-12 and never looked back.
The Roadrunners were held to a .140 hitting percentage as Shandong registered a .350 hitting percentage.
UTSA will return to action this Thursday, Sept. 1, at the American Campus Classic hosted by third-ranked Texas when the Roadrunners take on the Longhorns on at 7 p.m.
