HOUSTON -- UTSA outshot Houston Baptist 12-7, but the Huskies scored once in each period to take a 2-0 victory on Sunday evening at Sorrels Field.
Junior Kaja Skare and freshman Jordyn Lacy each had a pair of shots to lead the Roadrunners (2-1), who dropped their first match of the season.
Meanwhile, the Huskies (1-3) snapped a three-match skid behind goals from Ellee Hall and Allison Abendchein. Alanis Guevara made four saves en route to the third shutout of her career.
In its home debut, Houston Baptist jumped ahead early on Hall's strike in the 10th minute. Sabriah Spencer found Hall in the box and the junior slipped a shot past UTSA goalie Isabella Sanchez for the 1-0 lead.
The Roadrunners had six shots in the opening period, but went to intermission facing their first deficit of the 2016 season.
UTSA turned up the pressure in the second half with another six shots and nine corner kicks. However, the offense was unable to break through and saw the Huskies' lead jump to 2-0 on Abendchein's steal and goal in the 77th minute.
Guevara made the last of her four saves in the 87th minute and the Huskies were able to keep UTSA off the board for the shutout.
The Roadrunners will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2, when they open their home slate against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (0-4) at Park West Athletics Complex.
