SAN ANTONIO — Three weekend series remain in the regular season and UTSA will be on the road for two of those beginning this weekend when it takes on No. 17 Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton. The set begins with a 5:30 p.m. (CT) contest on Friday, followed by a 3 p.m. (CT) tilt on Saturday and Sunday's series finale is slated for 11 a.m. (CT).
The Roadrunners (15-28, 6-15 C-USA) head into the weekend following Tuesday's 6-0 loss to I-35 rival Texas State. It was the second time UTSA was shutout this season, as it registered a season-low two hits.
Bryan Arias had the first hit in the fourth and Jason Serchay had a pinch-hit shot up the middle in the ninth. Texas State scored half its runs off a pair of home runs between the first and second innings.
Arias leads the Roadrunner offensively with a .325 batting average with 50 hits, including six doubles and three triples. The freshman also has 21 runs, 14 RBIs, three stolen bases and a .403 slugging percentage. He is one triple away from matching the program's freshman record.
On the bump, Chance Kirby leads the Roadrunners pitching staff with a 4.19 ERA and he is 1-4 on the season. He has tossed 62.1 innings and is second on the staff with 39 strikeouts. Friday night starter Aaron Burns follows with a 4.79 ERA and leads C-USA with 12 starts.
Florida Atlantic (30-12, 14-7 C-USA) currently sits in third place in the league standings behind Southern Miss and Rice. The Owls' midweek matchup against No. 3 Miami was moved to Thursday due to inclement weather in the area on Wednesday.
Florida Atlantic has split its last 10 outings, most recently dropping a 4-3 home decision to Southern Miss last Sunday.
Leading the way for the Owls is C.J. Chatham, who is batting at a .391 clip. He has started all 42 games and tops the team with 70 hits, including 15 doubles, four triples and five home runs, to go along with 39 RBIs, 40 runs scored and a .603 slugging percentage.
