UTSA unveils 2016 soccer schedule on Monday

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA head soccer coach Greg Sheen announced Monday his program's 2016 schedule, which features nine home fixtures and a 10-match Conference USA slate.

"Our 2016 schedule promises to be challenging once again," Sheen said. "We've scheduled some very good non-conference games against quality teams and six of our 10 conference opponents were Conference USA tournament participants last season. Our young, but very experienced group of student-athletes is going to have to be ready to go on day one. It's also going to be a lot of fun reuniting with several of our former players as we bring back our alumni game for the first time in several years."

Following the alumni game on Aug. 13, the Roadrunners will open their 11th season with a pair of road games at Abilene Christian (Aug. 19) and Sam Houston State (Aug. 21). UTSA then will host cross-town foe Incarnate Word (Aug. 26) at Park West Athletics Complex in its home opener before taking to the road again for a matchup at Houston Baptist (Aug. 28).

UTSA will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Sept. 2), Northwestern State (Sept. 9) and UC Santa Barbara (Sept. 16), while it will face Stephen F. Austin (Sept. 4), Oklahoma State (Sept. 11) and Houston (Sept. 18) on the road in non-conference action.

The Roadrunners' fourth season as a member of C-USA will kick-off on Sept. 24 when UTSA hosts Middle Tennessee before hitting the road for matches at Old Dominion (Sept. 30) and Charlotte (Oct. 2).

Remaining conference home games include Rice (Oct. 7), North Texas (Oct. 9), FIU (Oct. 23) and Louisiana Tech (Oct. 28), while UTSA will face UTEP (Oct. 14), UAB (Oct. 16) and Western Kentucky (Oct. 20) on the road.

The top eight teams in the league standings will convene in Charlotte, N.C., for the C-USA Tournament, which will be contested from Nov. 2-6 at Transamerica Field.
