Roadrunners to conclude season this weekend at Middle Tennessee

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will conclude its season this weekend with a three-game Conference USA series at Middle Tennessee. The set is scheduled to get underway at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The teams will play again at 6 p.m. the next night and Saturday's finale is slated for noon.

The Roadrunners (15-34, 6-20 C-USA), who have dropped seven consecutive contests, have not played since last Saturday, as they have seen their last two outings cancelled due to rain.

UTSA is led at the plate by J.T. Gilmore, who owns a .316 batting average. Meanwhile, Byran Arias sits at .313 and ranks second on the team with 56 hits, including 13 for extra bases, to go along with 26 runs scored, 19 RBIs and five stolen bases.

This weekend's pitching rotation will feature the usual three arms but just in a different order. Right-hander Karan Patel (5.88 ERA) will get the starting nod on Thursday and he will be followed by Aaron Burns (5.61 ERA) and Chance Kirby (4.06 ERA).

Middle Tennessee (19-33, 5-22 C-USA) sits at the bottom of the league standings but it took a game at Old Dominion last weekend. The Blue Raiders have won just twice in their last 10 games.

Freshman Blake Benefield was named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week on Monday. He boasts a .294 batting average with 52 hits, including 13 doubles and eight home runs.
