Charlotte rallies past UTSA on Saturday in weather-delayed contest, 4-2

SAN ANTONIO — Charlotte erupted for four runs in the eighth inning to rally past UTSA, 4-2, on Saturday in a game that was delayed for several hours due to rain.

Originally scheduled as a noon doubleheader, the twinbill was shortened to just one game after heavy rains rolled through the Alamo City in the bottom of the first of the first contest.

The Roadrunners (15-34, 6-20 C-USA) came out a new team when the game was restarted at 6:30 p.m.

UTSA scored early with a run in the second inning. A double, walk and sacrifice bunt put Bryan Arias in scoring position and J.T. Gilmore then singled to left to drive in the freshman for the first score of the day.

The Roadrunners scored again in the fifth on Ben Brookover's base hit to right field that brought Gilmore across home plate.

Three innings and three errors later, the visiting 49ers (22-28, 11-15 C-USA) scored four runs with two outs.

Gilmore led UTSA by going 3-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Drew Ober had the only multiple hit game for Charlotte, as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, a double, stolen base and a run scored.

Sunday's series finale is scheduled for 11 a.m., weather permitting.
