Roadrunners to play at I-35 rival Texas State on Tuesday night

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will make the trek north to face I-35 rival Texas State at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

It will mark the second of three matchups of the spring, as the Roadrunners (11-16) walked away with a 14-7 victory in mid-March. The final meeting will take place in May.

UTSA makes the road trip off a conference weekend series loss to FIU. Aaron Burns and Andre Shewcraft combined for a 6-0 shutout of the Panthers on Friday for the only win of the series. The shutout was also the first of the season for the Roadrunners.

As a team, the Roadrunners are batting a .270 clip and they are led offensively by Skyler Valentine. The sophomore owns a .330 batting average with a team-leading 35 hits and 21 runs scored. He also is slugging .472 with a .403 on base percentage.

Jake Harrison will get the starting nod for the Roadrunners. The right-handed freshman will be making his first collegiate start and he has yet to surrender a run in 7.2 innings this spring. Harrison has made six appearances this season and recorded six strikeouts.

Texas State (18-10) is coming off a sweep of Sun Belt Conference foe Georgia Southern. The Bobcats held the Eagles to three runs in each of the games during the series.

The Bobcats own a 12-5 record when in the friendly confines of Bobcat Ballpark and are led by Granger Studdard. The junior outfielder is batting at a .356 clip and second on the team with 37 hits, 19 runs and 18 RBIs.

Jonathan Hennigan, who owns a 2-0 record and 3.72 ERA in six starts. will get the nod for Texas State. He is second on staff with 31 strikeouts in 29 innings of work.
