SAN ANTONIO — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi broke open a close game with a seven-run sixth inning in 12-4 victory at UTSA on Wednesday night at Roadrunner Field.
Roadrunners starter Jake Harrison kept the Islanders off the board through his first five innings on the hill, but he was pulled in the sixth after facing three batters. He received the no decision, but southpaw Bradley Griggs took the loss after allowing four runs on just one hit.
UTSA (14-25) scored early in the third inning on Bryan Arias' two-out RBI single. Another two runs in the fourth added to their lead to make it 3-0.
Ben Brookover's infield single scored Tyler Straub for the first score of the inning and he then crossed home plate on Skyler Valentine's team-leading 14th double of the season.
After Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (14-26) scored its seven runs, the Islanders bullpen held the Roadrunners to just one run, which came in the eighth.
The Islanders combined for five runs between the eighth and ninth frames to cap off the scoring.
Caleb Hanks received the win for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in his one inning of action.
Arias led the Roadrunners by going 2-for-5 with an RBI.
UTSA will be back in action on Friday when it hosts Louisiana Tech. First pitch in the opener of the weekend Conference USA series is slated for 6 p.m.
