LA JOLLA, Calif. — Jurmarcus Shelvin and UTSA's 1,600-meter relay both won titles to pace the Roadrunners men's track & field team at this weekend's Tritons Invitational.
Shelvin clocked a 51.59 to easily top the field of 26 400m hurdlers and it marked the senior's second victory in four meets this season. Meanwhile, Vasha Sheriff placed fourth (53.63) in the first race of his young career, giving UTSA two of the top four finishers in the event.
Kaylan Harris, Kyren Hollis, Shelvin and Andres Salazar picked up the Roadrunners' other gold medal at the two-day meet after they passed the baton in 3:15.57 in the field of nine mile relay squads.
Dusan Makevic placed second in the 5k with his season-best time of 14:33.12 and that came on the heels of a fourth-place effort in the 1,500m in which he crossed the finsh line with another season best (3:50.11).
Other highlights included Patrick Prince adding a sixth-place peformance in the 110m hurdles (14.29) and Conference USA leader Levi Jordan moving into fifth place on the program's all-time performers chart in the discus (PR 172-0/52.43m).
UTSA will return to action next weekend at the Bobcats Classic. The two-day met is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 29, in San Marcos.
