Roadrunners to open Conference USA Tournament play against No. 75 Old Dominion

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will begin postseason play at 9 a.m. on Thursday when it faces No. 75 Old Dominion in the opening round of the Conference USA Tournament. The four-day event will be held at the new Adams Tennis Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

The 13th-seeded Roadrunners (10-11) will be playing their first match in nearly three weeks when they square off against the No. 4 seed Monarchs (12-7). UTSA concluded its regular season back on April 3 with a 4-0 loss to then-No. 73 North Texas.

Jacobea Junger continues to pace the Roadrunners in singles play this spring with her team-leading 11 triumphs, but Nicole Karaklis and Miriam Rosell Canudas are just one win behind their teammate with 10 victories apiece. Karaklis has been the team's hottest player of late, as she has won four consecutive contests since moving down to the sixth spot in the lineup.

Meanwhile, Junger and Rosell Canudas continue to lead the club in doubles action. The duo saw its eight-match winning streak snapped in the regular season finale, but it still owns a season mark of 13-4.

Old Dominion comes into the tournament riding a two-match losing streak, but it had won eight of its last nine outings prior to dropping the final two contests of the regular season.

Thursday will mark the first meeting between UTSA and the Monarchs. The winner will advance to Friday's quarterfinals against either fifth-seeded Marshall or No. 12 seed Florida Atlantic.
