SAN ANTONIO — Weather permitting, UTSA is scheduled to host Houston Baptist in a midweek contest at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Roadrunners (14-21) will welcome the Huskies following their first Conference USA series win of the season this past weekend at Old Dominion. UTSA won the second game of the weekend set behind a spectacular pitching performance from Karl Craigie. The southpaw threw his first shutout, 3-0, and matched a season best with five strikeouts while issuing just one walk. The following day, Chance Kirby threw six innings of two-run baseball and was helped by an offense that contributed 12 hits to lead the Roadrunners to a 7-2 victory.
Matt Hilston drew five walks and he moved into fourth place in the NCAA in that category. He is also five away from matching his mark from a year ago.
Leading the Roadrunners offense after a successful weekend is Bryan Arias. The San Antonio product is batting at a .308 clip with 37 hits, 19 runs scored, five doubles and two triples.
On the bump, Craigie taken over the top spot with a 3.59 ERA. The southpaw is 3-0 on the year in 42.2 innings of work. He has struck out 27 and issued 14 walks.
Houston Baptist (18-17) is coming off a Southland Conference series win against Stephen F. Austin. The Huskies won the first two games before dropping the series finale, 15-3.
Austin Zillweger leads HBU with a .321 batting average and owns the team's third-best slugging percentage at .420. He is one of two players with single-digit strikeouts with nine. Greg Espinosa, who sports a .319 batting average, leads the team in hits (43), runs (22), doubles (9) and is second with 15 RBIs.
