UTSA atop Conference USA leaderboard in two events through opening month of season

SAN ANTONIO — Angel Sifuentes and UTSA's 1,600-meter relay sit atop the Conference USA standings through the opening month of the outdoor campaign.

Sifuentes' season-opening, program-record measurement of 147-2 (44.87m) at the UTSA Invitational leads all league performers, while the quartet of Jennifer Arinze, Shantel Swift, Evelyn Clark and Paige Patterson own a top time of 3:39.01, which came two weeks ago at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Meanwhile, Stephanie Wangui ranks among the top three in two events. The senior middle distance runner from Leander stands second in the 1,500m with her season-best clocking of 4:28.15 and her 800m time of 2:08.84 is third. Both performances came at the Texas Relays.

Mia Hicks leads the Roadrunners' field contingent with a pair of marks that stand among the top five in the circuit. The freshman from Conroe sits in fourth place in the shot put with a measurement of 44-11 ½ (13.70m), while her school-record discus throw of 156-2 (47.61m) ranks fifth.

A pair of UTSA sprinters — Clark (55.21) and Swift (55.22) — reside in fourth and fifth place, respectively, in the 400m and UTSA's other athlete in the top five in the circuit's standings is Gabriyella Torres, who is fifth in the heptathlon with 4,280 points.

The Roadrunners will return to action on Saturday at the Texas Invitational in Austin.
