Roadrunners fall short in 5-2 loss to Incarnate Word

SAN ANTONIO — Incarnate Word scored four of its five runs in the final three innings to hand UTSA a 5-2 loss on Tuesday afternoon at Roadrunner Field.

Trent Bowles and Ryan Stacy led the Roadrunners (12-20) with two hits on the day and all but two players in the starting lineup recorded at least one base knock.

Starting pitcher Karan Patel took the loss in over seven innings of action. Patel fanned five, issued four walks and allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits.

Tyler Lesley earned the win for Incarnate Word (9-24) after pitching two innings in relief and Lance Moszkowicz collected his fourth of the season.

The Cardinals struck first with a run in the second inning, but UTSA even things up with a lone run in the third when Matt Hilston singled up the middle to score Bowles from second base.

UTSA took a 2-1 lead on Tyler Straub's sacrifice fly in the sixth, but it did not last long after a miscue in the top of the seventh allowed a run to cross home plate for UIW to tie the score at two.

The Cardinals plated a single run in the eighth and two more insurance runs in the ninth.

UTSA will return to Conference USA action this weekend at Old Dominion. The three-game series will begin at 5 p.m. (CT) on Friday.
