SAN ANTONIO — Randee Crawford belted her team-leading 11th homer of the season, but Southern Miss used a four-run third inning to take control en route to a 6-1 victory at UTSA in Sunday's series finale at Roadrunner Field.
Lizzy Fox pitched five innings in relief for the Roadrunners (14-25, 8-7 C-USA) and she allowed just three hits and an unearned run with three strikeouts. Meanwhile, Erica Sanchez and Bailee Baldwin also had hits, while Stephanie Money had a pinch-hit single for her first collegiate knock.
The Golden Eagles (20-22, 7-8 C-USA) got another solid outing from Samantha Robles, who allowed one run on four hits with five strikeouts to pick up her second win of the series.
The visitors got on the board in the top of the first as Southern Miss scored a run without a hit thanks to a pair of walks and a UTSA error.
The advantage grew to 5-0 following a four-run top of the third inning. Another Roadrunners error started the rally and Southern Miss followed the miscue with five consecutive hits, including a two-run double from Sarah Evans.
Southern Miss tacked on one more unearned run in the fifth for a 6-0 cushion, which was enough for Robles, who again took a shutout into the bottom of the seventh.
This time it was Crawford who got the Roadrunners on the board with her solo homer the opposite way to start the frame. However, Robles retired the next three hitters on grounders to end the contest.
UTSA will close out its six-game home stand with a 4 p.m. doubleheader against Sam Houston State (14-23) on Wednesday, April 13, at Roadrunner Field.
