SAN ANTONIO — Christian Carrillo and Joao Riquelme combined for a 6-2 doubles win, but it was not enough in a 4-0 loss to No. 74 Middle Tennessee on Saturday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
Carrillo and Riquelme teamed up to dispatch the Blue Raiders' duo of Robin Riethmueller and Luis Morillo Diaz at No. 3 doubles to start the day for the Roadrunners (3-19).
However, Middle Tennessee (15-8) evened the battle for the doubles point with a 7-5 decision by Gonzalo Morell and Ayed Zatar Cordero against Fabian Brand and Diogo Casa at the top spot.
That put all the attention on the second court, where Gian Issa and Miguel Negre rallied for a 7-5 triumph against Eric Buchalter and Jake Rother to hand the the visitors a 1-0 lead.
In singles, Negre put Middle Tennessee up 2-0 after a 6-2, 6-0 sweep of Rother at No. 3.
Qatar Cordero downed Buchalter, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 to pull the Blue Raiders to within one point of clinching the match.
Issa secured the victory with a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 5.
The Roadrunners will return to action in two weeks when they travel to Houston for the Conference USA Championship.
