AUSTIN — No. 21 Texas claimed 5-2 and 4-0 victories against UTSA in a doubleheader on Saturday at the Polo Tennis Club.
The Longhorns (15-6) opened the twinbill with a 5-2 win.
Texas grabbed the first point of the day after winning at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles.
The Longhorns stretched their lead to 4-0 with three singles triumphs, including a 6-3, 6-0 decision by Colin Markes against Christian Carrillo at No 4 to clinch the match.
UTSA picked up a couple of points with third-set, super-tiebreaker decisions. Joao Riquelme edged Julian Zlobinsky at No. 3 with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (15-13) count, while Takeru Watanabe outlasted Johnny Goodwin, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (14-12), at No. 5 to help provide the final 5-2 margin.
Texas again claimed the doubles point in the second match with victories at the top two spots.
The Longhorns then swept at Nos. 2, 4 and 6 singles to secure the contest, which was called after the 4-0 lead.
The Roadrunners will close out their regular season next Saturday, April 9, when they host Middle Tennessee at noon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
