Houston guides UTSA to ninth place at Dallas Athletic Club/SMU Invitational

DALLAS — Julie Houston tied for 12th place to lead the UTSA women's golf team to a ninth-place tie at this weekend's Dallas Athletic Club/SMU Invitational, which concluded on Saturday at Dallas Athletic Club's Blue Course (par 72/6,174 yards).

Houston fired a 2-over-par 74 in the final round and ended up in a three-way tie for 12th at 5-over 221 (75-72-74). The freshman from Allen registered a pair of birdies in each of her three rounds en route to her fifth top-15 finish of the season.

Behind Houston's effort, the Roadrunners tied with No. 16 Iowa State and No. 25 Texas Tech for ninth place in the 16-team field that featured eight nationally ranked squads. UTSA carded a 909 (308-296-305) and was three shots in front of 41st-ranked Tulane and just one stroke out of a tie for seventh between Kansas and Kansas State.

Becky McGeehan tied for 28th after posting a 227 (76-75-76) and Aimee Ponte was 35th with a 229 (78-74-77). Nikki Long and Lara Weinstein rounded out the UTSA lineup in 52nd (79-75-78—232) and 83rd (85-89-82—256), respectively.

No. 10 Oklahoma State captured the team crown with a 4-over 868, followed by No. 18 UNLV (888), No. 13 Washington (895), N0. 27 SMU (903), Baylor (904) and No. 35 TCU (905).

Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas claimed individual medalist honors with a 6-under 210 (70-67-73).

The Roadrunners will return to the course on April 18-20 when they travel to Fort Myers, Fla., for the Conference USA Championship.
