SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will play a pair of midweek games this week beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday night at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before hosting Incarnate Word at 6 p.m. the following evening.
The Roadrunners (7-4) dropped last Friday's series opener at UC Irvine but bounced back to win the opener of a doubleheader the next day before falling in the nightcap. It was their first series loss of the spring.
C.J. Pickering sits atop the Roadrunners season box score with a .364 batting average. Pickering leads the team in hits (16) and doubles (5) and he has scored seven runs and registered eight RBIs.
Meanwhile, Skyler Valentine and Geonte Jackson are hitting .311 and .310, respectively. Valentine is second on the team with 14 hits and 11 runs to go along with three doubles, two home runs, nine RBIs and two stolen bases. Meanwhile, Jackson has registered 13 hits, including seven extra-base hits, with six runs, 10 RBIs and a pair of stolen bases.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (5-7) lost its final two outings against UT Arlington last weekend. Zack Gibson leads the Islanders with a .364 bating average with a team-best 16 hits, five of which have gone for extra bases, and 14 runs with five RBIs and two stolen bases.
Neighboring Incarnate Word (3-9) will visit Roadrunner Field with a seven-game losing skid and its last win came back on Feb. 26 against Bradley. Tanner Wall leads the Cardinals with a .400 batting average through nine games played. Wall is second on the team with 10 hits and he has a double and three RBIs.
