UTSA to welcome FIU to Roadrunner Field this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to snap its six-game losing skid this weekend when it hosts defending Conference USA Tournament Champion FIU for a three-game series. First pitch for Friday's opener is scheduled for 6 p.m., while Saturday and Sunday's contests are slated for 2 p.m. and noon, respectively.

In the last meeting between the two teams, the Panthers run-ruled the Roadrunners at the conference tournament by a score of 15-5. Overall, the all-time series is tied at two.

UTSA (10-14, 1-5 C-USA) heads into the weekend following Tuesday night's 5-4 loss at Baylor, as the Bears scored four times over the final three innings, including once in the ninth.

Despite the record, the Roadrunners are batting .274 as a team and are top five in doubles and triples.

Meanwhile, Skyler Valentine continues to have the hot bat for UTSA. The sophomore outfielder is batting at a .340 clip and leads the team in hits (33), runs scored (19), home runs (2), RBIs (18) and total bases (48).

Meanwhile, FIU (13-15, 2-4 C-USA) will make the trek to the Lone Star State tied for ninth in the standings and it is coming off a 21-8 victory against Bethune-Cookman.

The Panthers have taken on Marshall and Charlotte in C-USA action and have won just one game in each of those series.

Eddie Silva leads the FIU season box score with a .404 batting average on the stregth of a team-leading 40 hits and 10 doubles. Silva has also scored 17 runs and collected 14 RBIs.
