SAN ANTONIO — UTSA waited out a two-and-a-half delay due to wet court conditions and then fell into an early hole to I-35 rival Texas State, but it bounced back to win all four completed singles matches en route to a 4-1 victory in Wednesday's home finale.
The Bobcats (7-10) jumped in front early by winning two of the three doubles contests.
Pippa Carr and Eva Dench defeated Lina Hallgren and Charlene Tiwari at the second spot in the lineup, 6-3, but the Roadrunners' top duo of Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas downed Ana Perez and Yadira Rubio by the same score for its eighth consecutive victory to even things up. It was their team-leading 13th triumph of the spring.
However, Katy Collins and Ammaarah Tim outlasted Sonia Madroñal Medina and Alena Shichkova on the third court in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8-6), to clinch the point.
UTSA (10-9) then rallied in singles play to secure its third consecutive win and fourth in its last five outings overall.
Junger cruised past Rubio at the No. 3 position in straight sets (6-3, 6-0) for her team-leading 11th victory of the spring to knot the score at one.
The Roadrunners then took the lead when Nicole Karaklis followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Tim on court six, which was her fourth straight triumph.
Shichkova outlasted Carr by identical scores of 7-5, 7-5 at the second spot to put UTSA in front by two and Rosell Canudas clinched the victory when she rallied past Dench in three sets (3-6, 6-2, 6-2).
UTSA will begin a two-match road trip on Saturday at No. 48 UT Arlington (11-2). First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
