WACO — UTSA gave up four runs over the last three innings of play in a 5-4 loss at Baylor on Tuesday night. It was the Roadrunners' sixth consecutive setback.
Bryan Arias went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored, while Skyler Valentine was 2-for-4 with two walks and a run.
Patrick Herbelin was the pitcher of record in his one inning of action. The right-hander allowed three runs on four hits.
His counterpart, Troy Montemayor, earned the win in one inning of work after he scattered two hits and issued one walk.
UTSA (10-14) scored early with runs in the first and second innings but saw its lead cut in half in the third when Baylor jumped on the board with a lone run.
The Roadrunners avoided a bases-loaded jam in the fourth after starter Karl Craigie managed to record just one out. Chance Kirby entered the game and, two batters later, UTSA turned a double play to end the threat.
In the sixth, the Roadrunners added to their lead to make it 3-2 and they scored their final run in the eighth.
Baylor’s (11-13) lone run in the seventh began the come-from-behind rally for the Bears that led to the walk-off victory.
UTSA will return to Conference USA action this weekend against FIU. The three-game series will get underway at 6 p.m. on Friday.
