CORPUS CHRISTI — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi shut out UTSA by a score of 4-0 for the second time in three weeks on Wednesday afternoon at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
The Islanders, who extended their perfect start to the season to 8-0, picked up wins on the second and third doubles courts to take an early 1-0 lead.
However, Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas were able to stretch their winning streak to five matches when they defeated Jelena Dzinic and Judit Vives, 6-1. The pair now boasts a 10-3 record this spring.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi then registered straight-sets victories at the Nos. 3, 4 and 6 spots in singles play to complete the clean sweep.
Celia Rodriguez got past Charlene Tiwari at the fourth position (6-0, 6-2), Vives downed Alena Shichkova (6-2, 6-1) on the third court and Kerry Galhos clinched the win with her 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Nicole Karaklis at No. 6.
The Roadrunners (6-7) will head to Las Vegas, Nev., this weekend for matches at UNLV (9-0) and against Southern Utah (1-8) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Both contests are scheduled for noon (CT).
