ST. GEORGE, Utah — Julie Houston posted her third top-five finish of the season to lead UTSA to fifth place at the BYU Entrada Classic, which concluded on Tuesday at Entrada at Snow Canyon Golf Course (par 72/6,168 yards).
Houston tied for fourth place in the 81-player field after carding a 5-over-par 221. She opened the 54-hole event with a 72-74—146 on Monday and closed with a 75 that was highlighted by a birdie on the par-three 14th. The freshman from Allen was just two shots out of the top three and seven off the pace set by individual medalist Samantha Martin of Boise State, who shot a 214 (73-71-70).
Nikki Long turned in the Roadrunners’ best score of the final round with a 74 that featured a birdie on the par-three fifth. The sophomore from San Antonio Johnson High School finished in a tie for 14th with a 230 (81-75-74) for her fourth top-20 finish of the campaign.
Aimee Ponte tied for 23rd after registering a 233 (80-75-78), while Lara Weinstein and Brogan Townend rounded out the UTSA lineup in 34th (80-79-78—237) and 42nd (81-80-80—241), respectively.
The Roadrunners finished fifth in the 14-team field with a 921 (313-303-305), four shots behind a tie for third place between Boise State and San Francisco (917).
No. 36 BYU won the team title with an 888, while Iowa was the runner-up with a 911. Eastern Kentucky (931), Rutgers (938), Southern Utah (945), Utah Valley (947) and Wyoming (949) rounded out the top 10.
Competing as an individual, Becky McGeehan tied for 34th with a 237 (81-84-72).
The Roadrunners will continue their Spring Break road trip on Friday-Saturday, March 18-19, when they travel to Tucson, Ariz., for the MountainView Collegiate.
