SAN ANTONIO — Coming off its third straight Tuesday night win, UTSA will welcome Gonzaga for a three-game series that is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday. Due to forecasted inclement weather in the next 24 hours, a contingency plan has been made and the Roadrunners' official Twitter account will post all updates on any changes to the weekend set.
UTSA has won three of its last five outings this season, including a road win over then-No. 21 Houston, and are 4-2 at the Bird Bath.
As a team, the Roadrunners are batting a .289 clip and rank in the top-five in Conference USA in doubles (28), triples (4), home runs (8), runs scored (81), RBIs (72), sacrifice flies (7) and slugging percentage (.436).
A new name sits atop UTSA’s season stats with Jason Serchay batting a team-best .345. The junior transfer has racked up 10 hits with one home run, four RBIs and six runs.
C.J. Pickering follows with a .340 batting average with team-bests in hits (16) and doubles (5). Pickering has also scored seven runs with eight RBIs and has the third best on base percentage (.418).
Chance Kirby is projected to start on Friday’s series opener with Aaron Burns on Saturday. Sunday’s starter is yet to be determined.
Kirby leads the Roadrunners pitching staff with a .300 ERA in 18.0 innings of work. The right-hander has collected 13 strikeouts, issued six walks, given up six earned runs and allowing opponents to hit a staff-low .180 clip.
Meanwhile, Burns is 1-1 on the season in four starts with a 5.79 ERA in 18.2 innings of action. The senior has fanned 14 batters and given up five walks.
Gonzaga continues its 15-game season-opening road swing when the Bulldogs head to the Alamo City. The Bulldogs are 6-6 on the season and are coming off a 15-10 upset of No. 14 Arkansas.
Sam Brown leads the Bulldogs on the year with a .367 batting average with 18 hits, including four doubles and one home run, 13 runs and seven RBIs. Seven total players are batting above a .300 average.
On the mound for the Bulldogs this weekend will be Brandon Bailey (3.00 ERA), Hunter Wells (4.85 ERA) and Eli Morgan (9.77 ERA). The trio combines for four of the team’s six wins.
