Houston leads UTSA to 12th place at SunTrust Gator Invitational

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Led by a final-round 72 from Julie Houston, the UTSA women’s golf team finished 12th at this weekend's SunTrust Gator Invitational, which wrapped up on Sunday at Mark Bostick Golf Course (par 70/6,002 yards).

Houston posted the Roadrunners’ top round of the day with her 2-over-par effort and the freshman from Allen finished in a tie for 41st with a 227 (77-78-72). She registered 34 pars to go along with three birdies.

Nikki Long was one shot behind in a tie for 43rd with a 228 (75-76-77), while Brogan Townend tied for 46th with a 229 (79-74-76).

Aimee Ponte and Becky McGeehan rounded out the UTSA lineup in 50th (79-78-73—230) and 71st (82-79-79—240), respectively.

Lara Weinstein tied for 59th (73-75-84—232) on the strength of a team-high six birdies while competing as an individual.

The Roadrunners carded a 298 in the final round to close out a 914 and pass Mississippi (923) in the team standings.

No. 8 Florida won the team title with an 862 and the host Gators were followed by six nationally ranked teams in No. 18 Florida State (873), No. 44 Ohio State (876), No. 31 Oregon (877), No. 29 North Carolina State (881), 34th-ranked SMU (883) and No. 9 Kent State (884).

Rachael Taylor of North Carolina State captured the individual crown with an even-par 210 (66-70-74).

The Roadrunners will return to the course on March 14 when they travel to St. George, Utah, for the two-day BYU Entrada Classic.
