AUSTIN — No. 38 Texas blanked UTSA by a score of 7-0 on Sunday at Whitaker Tennis Courts.
The Roadrunners (3-3) battled in doubles play, but the Longhorns (3-1) were able to secure the early advantage with victories at the first and second positions.
The Texas tandem of Lana Groenvynck and Neda Koprcina got things started with a 6-2 win against UTSA's Nicole Karaklis and Alena Shichkova on court two, but Lina Hallgren and Charlene Tiwari picked up the Roadrunners' lone trimuph of the afternoon with their 6-3 victory on the third court against Katie Poluta and Daniella Roldan. The pair now is a perfect 5-0 this spring.
However, UT clinched the point when Breaunna Addison and Dani Wagland, the nation's 28th-ranked doubles team, defeated Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas by a score of 6-3 at center court.
The Longhorns then swept the six singles matches, five of which were in straight sets.
Hallgren was the lone Roadrunner to go three stanzas, but she dropped a narrow 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) decision to Groenvynck on court six. It marked the junior's first loss in six matches this spring.
UTSA will return home for a 2 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Feb. 10, against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (3-0).
