BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Kasia Kiejdrowska scored a season-best 23 points and brought the Roadrunners deficit down to three points in the final ticks, but Western Kentucky made a last second basket to pull away and defeat the Roadrunners 72-65 Thursday night at E.A. Diddle Arena.
Kiejdrowska reached double digits for the first time this season with her 23 points and went 8-of-18 from the field, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range. She led the Roadrunners at the half with 11 points, playing all but nine minutes through the first 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, Mathilde Hergott reached double figures for the fourth consecutive game with 14 points and added three rebounds, two assists and one block and steal.
WKU entered Thursday’s contest with the fourth best scoring offense in Conference USA and quickly proved it. The Lady Toppers scored two quick baskets out of the gates and UTSA was calling for a timeout.
The Lady Toppers (18-3, 9-1 C-USA) quickly pulled away and continued its hot-shooting into the second quarter where they led by as many as 15 halfway through the frame.
However, in the third quarter, UTSA (7-13, 3-7 C-USA) brought its deficit to a single digit after going on a 7-1 run to make it 50-41 at the 4:47 mark.
WKU slowed down the pace towards the end of the third and into the fourth where the Roadrunners eventually made it a three-point game with 51 seconds off a triple from Kiejdrowska. The Lady Toppers responded with a three of its own to secure the win and keep their home record flawless.
UTSA will head to Huntington, W.Va. to take on Marshall (15-6, 5-5 C-USA) at 12 p.m. on Saturday.
