ABILENE — UTSA saw its two-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday with a narrow 4-3 setback at Abilene Christian.
The Roadrunners (3-2) fell into an early hole by dropping both of the completed doubles contests.
Erin Walker and Whitney Williams handed UTSA's top duo of Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas its first loss of the season, 6-3, and the Wildcats (5-3) then clinched the first point of the day when Kaysie Hermsdorf and Lucile Pothier came off the second court with a 6-3 win against Nicole Karaklis and Alena Shichkova.
Junger evened things up when she downed Hermsdorf in straight sets (6-0, 6-2) at the No. 2 singles position and it was her fifth consecutive triumph to open her senior campaign.
Nada Marjanovic put ACU back in front when she defeated Shichkova by scores of 6-1 and 6-2 at third spot, but the Roadrunners promptly tied the contest at two when Rosell Canudas picked up a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory against Walker at center court.
However, the Wildcats earned wins at the Nos. 4 and 5 positions to clinch the match.
Lina Hallgren joined Junger at a perfect 5-0 on the spring with her 7-6, 1-6, 1-0 (10-2) triumph agianst Jordan Henry at the sixth slot in the lineup.
UTSA will return to action at 1 p.m. on Sunday at No. 38 Texas (2-1).
