SAN ANTONIO — UTSA used a strong second half that propelled the Roadrunners past Old Dominion, 70-67, on Saturday afternoon at the Convocation Center.

The Roadrunners (9-18, 5-12 C-USA), who snapped a four-game losing streak, fired 52.4 percent (11-of-21) from the field in the second half and ended the contest with four players in double figures.

Akunna Elonu and Crystal Chidomere each netted 16 points and Elonu grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Meanwhile, Carlie Heineman added 12 points and Sara Anastasieska chipped in with 11.

Jennie Simms led Old Dominion with a season-best 39 points, as she finished 10-of-20 from the field and 18-of-21 from the line.

At the half, the score sat tied at 33 after Heineman and Alana Heard each made last-second layups to knot the score.

The Roadrunners turned it up in the second half, controlling the game after the second tie of the third quarter.

Old Dominion (12-16, 8-8 C-USA) scored a pair of free throws to start the second half but a jumper by Chidomere presented the first tie of the third. Elonu followed with another two points for UTSA and the Lady Monarchs drew the final tie of the game on a pair of free throws from Destinee Young.

UTSA followed with a 5-0 run and never looked back. The Roadrunners led by as many as 10 at the 6:22 mark in the fourth.

The Roadrunners will return to the Convocation Center one last time in 2016 when UTSA hosts UTEP in the final regular season game of the year. Tip off is slated for 7 p.m.
