SAN ANTONIO — UTSA returned home for the first time in more than two weeks and came off the courts with a comeback 4-3 victory against Air Force on Friday.
The Roadrunners (5-6) rallied for the win despite dropping two of the doubles contests.
Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas gave UTSA the early advantage with their 6-0 triiumph against Lily Forlini and Mary Meyers at the top spot in the lineup, but the Falcons (5-5) made quick work of the Roadrunners on the other two courts to go in front.
Chloe Forlini and Jocelle Rudico blanked Nicole Karaklis and Sonia Madroñal Medina at the second position and that was followed by a 6-2 victory by Elizabeth Barnickel and Elisa Nelson against Alena Shichkova and Charlene Tiwari at the third spot.
The Falcons' advantage grew to two when Lily Forlini handed Madroñal Medina a 6-1, 6-1 setback at No. 5 singles, but UTSA answered with four consecutive straight-sets wins to clinch its fifth victory of the spring.
Shichkova defeated Barnickel on court three (6-1, 6-3), Karaklis cruised past Nelson at the sixth position (6-0, 6-3), Rosell Canudas downed Meyers on center court (6-2, 6-2) and Tiwari outlasted Rudico at the fourth spot in the lineup (6-4, 6-4).
UTSA will return to action at 10 a.m. on Sunday at Texas-Rio Grande Valley (2-4).
