Roadrunners to begin regular season-ending home stand this weekend against Charlotte, Old Dominion

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will close out the regular season at home by playing its final three games at the Convocation Center. The Roadrunners will host Charlotte (Thursday) and Old Dominion (Saturday) this weekend before ending the season with UTEP on March 3.

The Roadrunners (8-17, 4-11 C-USA) dropped games to Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss on the road last week.

In the last outing, Southern Miss handed UTSA a 65-53 loss behind Brittany Dinkins 20-point performance.  The Roadrunners were led by Alexus Dukes’ 14 points and Crystal Chidomere’s 13. All but two players that saw time on the hardwood scored at least two points.

Tesha Smith remains the only Roadrunner to average double figures at 10 points, but Akunna Elonu trails closely behind with 9.2 points per game.  Smith also is grabbing a team-best 8.2 rebounds and shooting 50.7 percent from the floor.

Charlotte (16-9, 9-5 C-USA) heads to the Lone Star State coming off one of its biggest wins of the season, Saturday's 81-72 victory against Western Kentucky. The 49ers had its entire starting lineup score in double digits and were led by Lefty Webster’s 19 points and 11 rebounds. Saturday’s win made it four straight wins for the 49ers, their longest streak of the season. Charlotte is in sole possession of fourth place in the league standings and are led by Alexis Alexander’s 15 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

UTSA will turn around two days later and host Old Dominion (12-14, 8-6 C-USA) at 2 p.m. on Saturday for Senior Day. Head coach Lubomyr Lichonczak and his staff will honor its four seniors — Akunna Elonu, Mathilde Hergott, Niaga Mitchell-Cole and Dempsey Thornton — as well as graduating student manager Jordan Lacy.
