LAKE CHARLES, La. — UTSA won the doubles point, but McNeese State rallied for victories in five of the six singles matches en route to a 5-2 victory on Saturday.
Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas won their team-leading seventh doubles contest of the season when they defeated Giovanna Fioretti and Sarah Jurakova at the top doubles spot, 6-2. However, the Cowgirls (8-4) evened things up when Charoline Erlandsson and Julia Kral came off the third court with a 6-4 triumph against Lina Hallgren and Charlene Tiwari. The Roadrunners (4-6) won the point when Nicole Karaklis and Alena Shichkova won their first contest of the year, 6-4, against Hannah Brett and Klaudia Gawlik at the second spot in the lineup.
It was all McNeese State from there, as it came off five of the half dozen singles courts with wins.
UTSA's lone victory the rest of the way came from Junger, who downed Giovanna Fioretti in straight sets (7-5, 6-3) at the second position. It was her team-high seventh triumph of the campaign.
The Roadrunners will will return home next Friday, Feb. 26, for an 11 a.m. match against Air Force (3-3).
