SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will make its final road trip of the regular season this weekend when it travels east to take on Louisiana Tech and Southern Miss.
The Roadrunners (8-15, 4-9 C-USA) head to Louisiana Tech off Saturday's 59-54 loss to FIU, who sits at the bottom of the conference standings. Crystal Chidomere paced the team with a career-best 18 points, while Sara Anastasieska chipped in with 12.
Despite the loss, UTSA still leads the circuit in defensive field-goal percentage, allowing opponents to shoot 36.7 percent from the field, which is best for 52nd in the country.
Tesha Smith continues to lead the Roadrunners with team bests of 10.2 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Smith recently cracked into the UTSA all-time record books in rebounds with her nine on Saturday and she sits 10th all-time with 548.
Since last facing the Roadrunners, Louisiana Tech (12-11, 7-5 C-USA) only has won two games (Rice/North Texas) and dropped three overall, including two straight. The Lady Techsters are riding a two-game losing skid with losses to Middle Tennessee and UAB but they are tied for fourth in the standings with Charlotte and Old Dominion.
Brandi Wingate leads the LA Tech season stat sheet with 17.3 points per game and she also is grabbing 7.4 boards a night. Wingate is shooting 54.6 percent (149-of-273) from the field, which ranks third in the circuit. Brooke Pumroy and Ashley Santos are the only other players averaging double figures with 10.9 and 10 points per night, respectively. Pumroy leads the team with 36 3-pointers and is second with 54 assists, while Santos is grabbing 5.1 boards a game.
UTSA will close out its road swing at Southern Miss on Saturday with a 5 p.m. contest.
