SAN ANTONIO — Texas A&M-Corpus Christi sent UTSA to its third consecutive setback with a 4-0 victory on Wednesday evening at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Islanders (4-0) claimed the early lead by picking up wins, both by scores of 6-4, on the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles courts.
Maider Martin and Celia Rodriguez won first against Nicole Karaklis and Alena Shichkova at the second position and Alexandra Belle/Hortense Boscher followed soon thereafter by handing the Roadrunners' third duo of Lina Hallgren and Charlene Tiwari its first loss of the spring.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went on to capture singles wins at the Nos. 6, 4 and 5 spots to clinch the victory.
Kerry Galhos downed Hallgren in straight sets on court six, 6-1, 6-4, and that was followed by Rodriguez's 6-3, 6-3 triumph against Karaklis at the fourth spot in the lineup. Martin finished off the win with her three-set victory against Tiwari (6-0, 4-6, 6-2).
UTSA (3-4) will return to action next Thursday, Feb. 18, at Louisiana-Lafayette (4-1).
