SAN ANTONIO — UTSA wrapped up an undefeated weekend on Sunday with a 6-1 victory at Incarnate Word .
The Roadrunners (3-1) jumped in front early by winning two of the three doubles matches.
Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas blanked Victoria Kareh and Rachel Sadiq on center court for their fourth consecutive win to open the season. However, Sarah Savedra and Taryn Strahl evened things up when they downed Nicole Karaklis and Alena Shichkova by a score of 7-5 at the second position in the lineup. Lina Hallgren and Charlene Tiwari also improved to a perfect 4-0 on the spring when they held off Antea Dedic and Matea Zemunik, 7-6, on the third court to clinch the point for UTSA.
The Roadrunners went on to win five of the six singles matches against the Cardinals (0-2) for their second victory of the weekend.
Karaklis downed Savedra in straight sets (6-0, 6-3) at the No. 4 slot to stretch the lead to two and Junger followed with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph against Zemunik at the second position to push her season mark to a perfect 4-0.
Rosell Canudas clinched the team victory with her 6-4, 6-1 win against Sadiq on the first court.
The Roadrunners' other triumphs of the day came from Shichkova at the third position (7-6, 6-1 vs. Kareh) and Hallgren at the sixth position (6-2, 3-6, 1-0 [10-6] vs. Maria Batchinsky). Hallgren has won all four of her singles contests this year.
UTSA will return to action at noon on Wednesday, Feb. 3, at Abilene Christian (4-3).
