Chidomere career day not enough as UTSA falls to Middle Tennessee, 74-63

SAN ANTONIO — Crystal Chidomere had a career day off the bench Saturday, but it was not enough, as UTSA fell by a score of 74-63 to Middle Tennessee at the Convocation Center.

Chidomere netted 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and she added a career-best nine rebounds. Meanwhile, Tesha Smith filled up the stat sheet with 11 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, two assists and a steal.

After coming off a dramatic win Thursday, UTSA (5-9, 1-3 C-USA) struggled to find its rhythm Saturday. Despite shooting 44 percent from the field (23-of-52), the Roadrunners never held a lead.

Middle Tennessee (8-6, 2-1 C-USA) led 35-25 at the half and finished the game with a 47.1 shooting percentage (24-of-51).

The Roadrunners trailed early on and ended the opening frame down 18-11. In the second quarter, Chidomere score 12 of the team’s 14 points – which all came off the bench.

The Blue Raiders continued to pick up the pace and outscored UTSA 23-17 in the final period.

MT had three players in double figures with Ty Petty leading the way with a game-high 20. Alex Johnson added 19 points and Brea Edwards 14.

UTSA will hit the road for a three-game road swing beginning next Sunday, Jan. 17, at UTEP (12-1, 3-0 C-USA). Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. (CT).
