UTSA to return to action at Saturday' John Thomas Terriers Classic

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA's men's track & field team will return to action on Saturday at the John Thomas Terriers Classic. The one-day meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. (CT) at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center and a rolling schedule of events will follow throughout the day.

The meet will feature a very large and deep field made up of nearly 3,000 athletes representing 80 universities. The event also will feature approximately 400 post-collegiate athletes competing for a wide variety of clubs and teams.

"We are excited to see where we are as a team at this point in the season," Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Aaron Fox said. "We, as a team, have never been to Boston, so it will be a new adventure for us all. There will be teams that we do not normally face there like Syracuse and Dartmouth, to name a few. I am excited to see how the team will compete in a unique environment."

Dusan Makevic raced to a second-place finish in the 3,000 meters to lead the Roadrunners at the season-opening Texas A&M 11-Team Invitational on Jan. 16 in College Station.

Makevic, a senior from Sabac, Serbia, clocked a personal-best time of 8:11.85, an improvement of nearly three-and-a-half seconds from his previous top mark (8:15.27 recorded as a sophomore at Louisiana-Monroe), and that propelled him to second place on the program's all-time performance chart. He missed breaking Olympian Roger Soler's 31-year-old school record of 8:10.09 by less than two seconds in placing a half second behind BYU gold medalist Rory Linkletter, who broke the tape in 8:11.35.

Makevic's time currently leads the Conference USA standings and he is joined atop the league leaderboard by Jurmarcus Shelvin, who clocked a personal-best time of 47.76 en route to fifth place in the 400m, and the distance medley relay of Luca Chatham, Kaylan Harris, Kyren Hollis and Makevic, who passed the baton in 10:10.04 on their way to fourth place.
